More info

Pilansberg Nature Reserve is located in the North West Provinse, about 2 hour’s drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, which make it probably the most accessible of all South Africa’s fantastic reserves. Pilansberg is a malaria free area.

With the Pilansberg Nature Reserve being Big 5 country, you will have the opportunity to see a wide range of animals, beautiful scenery, and with a little bit of luck spot the Big 5 in one day. You also have a good chance to ad Cheetah and Wild dogs to your list of sightings.

In 1979, Operation Genesis was launched in the Reserve. The objective was to reinforce the homegrown game population in the area. As part of the initiative, 110km of game fences was put up, and 188km of roads were established. Another plan of action put into place, involved 6 000 animals being introduced to the area. Today there are over 7 000 animals, 360 bird species and more than 200km of roads in the reserve.

What will Specialist Tours offer you

• Transport from your hotel anywhere in Johannesburg or Pretoria to the Pilansberg and back.
• A specialist tour guide will be your driver for the full day, with not only a great knowledge of the wildlife and the Pilansberg Nature Reserve, but also on anything else you want to know about our wonderful country.
• There will be some snacks and cold drinks for the trip, which will definitely include the proudly South African delicatessen, called “biltong” and “dry wors”.
• We will stop for a light meal at the very central and beautiful Mankwe dam. The dam is the largest body of water in the game reserve, which makes it the perfect place to spot a wide variety of animals, including water-buck, wildebeest, zebra and impala.
• We will do at least a 3 to 4 hours game drive before lunch and another 2 hours after lunch before departing back to Gauteng.
• Specialist Tours is committed to giving you an unforgettable experience. Although we will recommend and guide you, we will even on this day trip be flexible and do our best to accommodate any requests that might come up during the day.
